Hondaは、2006年二輪ロードレース世界選手権最終戦が開催されたスペインのバレンシアサーキットにおいて、2007年シーズンに参戦する800cc・4ストロークマシンRC212Vのプロトタイプを発表しました。ロードレースの最高峰クラスであるMotoGPは、レギュレーションの変更により、2007年から排気量の上限が990ccから800ccへと変更になります。
RC212Vという名称における“RC”はHondaの4ストロークグランプリマシンを意味し、“212”は21世紀における二代目グランプリマシンを意味しています。 また末尾の“V”には、（1）V型エンジン、（2）VICTORYの頭文字という意味を持たせています。
かっこいいですね～ついにシートカウルがなくなっちゃいましたね。
